When My Baby Is Buggy was born...

Years ago, when I was perhaps eleven or twelve, my daddy drew me a little cartoon of a ladybug pushing a baby carriage, and the caption read: "My Baby is Buggy." I loved that sweet little scrap of paper and saved it for years, but alas, somewhere along the way that tiny piece of history disappeared. I imagine that my dad's 'Mrs. Ladybug' may have been the catalyst for one of my most fulfilling occupations: Illustrator and maker of tiny things.

From Start to Finish

When I first began drawing the illustrations for The Purples Are Coming! I had no formal training, just high school art class. Over the years birthday cards were hand drawn, and Disney characters that I sketched and colored were hung on my children's wall. So, I wasn't exactly sure how one goes about rendering something that doesn't get tacked onto a kid's wall, but will actually end up in a children's book. I didn't know what to expect (which is important, or I probably would have never begun the project), so I just picked up a beta digital drawing program and started fumbling through it.

Here is an example of one of my first drawings of Bella, Derdle and Dink... "stacked one on top of the other, just like one lamb, one kingfisher and one wren might stack, you would think."
And then... after weeks of tweaks and trials... here is the finished picture:

Renewed Blog!

Okay, I admit... I have neglected my blog. It's not that I didn't have anything to say :)  it's just that, well, stuff happens, time flies. Anyway, I have finally started a website where I can post my illustrations, books, stories, tidbits about my teeny-tiny garden, the occasional craft project and my blog. So I invite you to...
